If you create a new field and would like it to appear in your facet options, here are the steps to make it happen.
Create the new field and set up the data you would like it to contain. For this tutorial I will be using a new custom field for colors called "custom_field_8" but this will apply to any field SearchSpring pulls.
Some example data for a new field could look something like:
You can leave the data blank, add one option, or add in multiple option for that product using some type of delimiter. This example uses commas to separate multiple options.
Once you have your data set up, log in to the SearchSpring Management Console and go to Settings > Field Settings.
On the left will be a button that says "Check For New Fields" Click that and this will redirect you to a new page. Once regen and validation are complete, you will be redirected to the "Field Labels" page. Find your new field and re-name it to what you would like it to be called. This is what will show up as the title for the field on your page. For this example, "custom_field_8" would be re-named to "Color".
Then click Save at the bottom.
The next step is to go to Settings > Field Settings.
Find your new field and select the "Facet" checkbox. For this example I would Check the box under "Facet" on the field "Color custom_field_8". You will see what you have re-named the field to and what the field looks like in the data. Click Save so that your new option will be added into the system.
Navigate to Settings > Field Types
If you created a field that will allow you to have multiple values, this is where you specify that. If there are multiple values, Check the box under Multi-valued for your field and select the Multi-valued Delimiter.
For this example, Multi-valued would be checked and the Multi-valued Delimiter would be changed to a comma.
Next go to Settings > Field Faceting
This is where you can specify options on how the field is displayed and change the order they will be displayed in. Change the Order so that it has a greater value than the field you would like it to display below, and so that it has a smaller value than the field you would like it to display before. If you would like the option to start out minimized, Select the "Collapsed" check box.
The following options could have styling effects on your page depending on if it was originally created to include different Widget Type Options.
The default option is List.
If you would like the facet to display as a slider, select "Slider" in the dropdown under Widget Type.
If you would like the facet to display as a grid select "Grid" in the dropdown under Widget Type.
If you would like the facet to display as a Palette select "Palette" in the dropdown under Widget Type.
The final step is to request a re-index.
At the top right on the orange header bar, click "Index Status".
Then click "Update Index". Once your site has finished re-indexing you will get an email letting you know it is done and the new data will appear on your page.
